Case Studies: SUPPLIER DIVERSITY

Central Artery/Tunnel Project (Boston)
We helped design and implement the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program for the largest public works project in US history--Boston’s $15 billion Central Artery/Tunnel "Big Dig" Project. We surveyed hundreds of contractors as the basis for designing the DBE program including: targeted outreach, goal setting, business development and reporting. A “best practices” study of transportation projects resulted in the development of a successful mentoring program.

Sound Transit (Seattle)
The Gideon Group was hired to conduct an Environmental Impact Study (EIS) for a new light rail system in Seattle. Our role was to evaluate the beneficial impacts oflight rail  transit on targeted communities. The benefits were determined by looking at the actual benefits experienced by similar light rail systems in San Diego, San Jose, Portland, San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, Dallas, St. Louis, Baltimore and Boston. Our in-depths study outlined the significant benefits that resulted in the blue print for a $50 million Community Investment Fund.

Crenshaw/Prairie Corridor Major Investment Study (Los Angeles)
Following the serious civil disturbances in 1992, The Gideon Group aliened with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) to create strategies for linking economic development and transit development. Specifically, we examined how proposed transit development within Los Angeles could generate economic benefits to area residents and businesses. This alliance resulted in creating realistic strategies that were initiated prior to full development of the project.
